The Lewis & Clark College Department of Art and Art History invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Art in Digital Media to begin in the fall of 2024.

We seek an artist whose practice and teaching demonstrate a technical and critical understanding of contemporary issues in digital media and culture. The ideal candidate will be an artist and educator who thinks broadly about how digital media converses with other artistic mediums and will be versed in the theory and understanding of the cultural effects of new media and digital technologies in contemporary art practice within a liberal arts context. Areas of expertise may include creative coding, experimental sound, 2D imaging, 3D fabrication, multimedia installation, and other intersections between studio art, media, and technology. An applicant’s exhibition record should demonstrate professional engagement and accomplishments relevant to the candidate’s practice. An MFA, Ph.D., or Master’s in a digital media-related field is required, and two or more years of teaching are preferred. The usual teaching load is five courses per academic year, including introductory and upper-level courses of the instructor’s design, rotation into a studio seminar in art theory, senior critique and project, special topics classes, and rotation into the college’s general education program. Working with studio art technicians, the position also includes administrative oversight of the digital media area. The review of applications will begin on December 15, 2023, and continue until the position is filled.

In Portland, Oregon, Lewis & Clark College is a small liberal arts college with 2100 undergraduates. Together, we seek a just and sustainable society locally and globally. We are searching for six tenure-track positions in departments across our campus this year. We seek candidates who wish to become excellent teachers and scholars at an undergraduate institution and whose varied experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds can contribute to a diverse and inclusive community of critical thinkers. Our faculty teach, advise, and mentor students with varied backgrounds from across the US and around the globe. The college provides a paid pre-tenure junior sabbatical, mentoring, and professional development support.
