The Department of Art and Art History at the University of California, Davis seeks a promising artist working in painting for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position, beginning July 1, 2024.

Applicants should demonstrate an exceptional level of promise and achievement in their work through exhibitions, critical reviews, publications, grants/awards, and/or other related venues. Applicants are expected to have a strong foundation in painting with a firm background in developing and expanding the conceptual and technical aspects of the discipline beyond traditional conventions. The successful candidate should have an ability to dynamically engage with students at all levels and foster creative and intellectual dialogue with students and faculty alike, in the context of a research university setting. Proficiency in a range of materials and techniques, and knowledge of the history and theory of painting and of contemporary visual art is essential. Candidates will teach all levels of painting and drawing and should demonstrate knowledge of how painting intersects with other visual arts disciplines, such as printmaking, photography, digital media, sculpture and/or installation. Familiarity with digital technologies is critical. Candidates are expected to contribute leadership to the operation of the painting area, participate in all aspects of departmental life including committee service, curricular development, departmental reviews, as well as university and departmental service.  A minimum of three years of college-level teaching beyond graduate school is required. MFA or an equivalent terminal degree required.
