Trajectory
At Transart, your practice is the research; Your practice will entwine writing and reflection to become in depth and original creative research. Your research will culminate in submitting an integrated thesis, which may include a presentation, exhibition, publication, reading, performance, screening, workshop or another form of dissemination.
Practice PhD
Our Doctorate of Philosophy in Creative Research is for those with a specific project or question whose practice embodies or essentially drives their research. Your tenure in the program will transform your practice and your awareness of what it can do, significantly contributing to knowledge in your field and augmenting your credentials for academic positions, grants and inclusion in research projects.
Programs
Our praxis-centered programs revolve around local and virtual residencies. You will participate in symposia, topical workshops, research seminars, exhibitions, screenings, cultural excursions, sound baths, listening and somatic sessions and other events to enrich your praxis. Past local residencies have occurred in Berlin, Mexico City, Liverpool and New York City. 2024 residencies will include Nairobi, New York. You will meet monthly with your advisors for detailed feedback on your work and have regular discussions with your peer critique and/or research groups.
Residency
Our January 2024 residency will occur in Nairobi, Kenya. Transart MFA & PhD creative researchers will spend a week meeting local artists and curators, participating in workshops, research discussion circles, studio visits, collective cooking and artist-led excursions.
